Flow Cups

The efflux time, measured in seconds, is often sufficient for a relative classification. It is determined using flow cups of various designs. Flow cups, originally designed to perform quick viscosity and consistency evaluations of Newtonian or near Newtonian products, can provide a high degree of accuracy and repeatability depending on the quality of their manufacture.

    Flow cups hold a defined volume of liquid which flows through an orifice. Results are expressed as time in seconds for the liquid to flow through the orifice until the first break in the efflux stream occurs.
