Description: When an emulsion polymer is used to produce paint, adhesive, chemical blended fabric, surface treatment agents for leather or paper, its film forming property is very important. Apply an emulsion polymer or emulsion paint on to the metal board, when the water has been evaporated, polymer particles would form a continuous and transparent film because of the interaction under suitable temperature. The ultimate temperature of critical film forming is called as minimum film forming temperature for this emulsion polymer, short for MFT temperature.
Tester Principle: Set the cooling source and the heating source on a suitable metal board and allow them to reach thermal equilibrium. Different temperature gradients would appear on this board because of metal heat conduction. Apply a uniform sample on the temperature board using a film applicator (available separately). The water of the sample will be evaporated under the heating of different temperatures and sample will form a film. The formed film performance is different under different temperatures. Find the boundary and then its corresponding temperature is MFT temperature of this sample.
BGD 451 Minimum Film Forming Temperature Tester (MFTT) is the newest high-precision product developed by Biuged. We use a platinum resistance thermometer (PRT) imported from Germany as a temperature sensor, and use a LU-906M intelligent temperature controller which combines fuzzy control theory with PID control to ensure it shows an error of less than 0.5%±1 bit. In order to reduce size, we use a special size grad board. Furthermore, there is a water-break protection system for any interference with the water supply, the machine will turn off automatically once there is a break in the water supply. For saving water consumption, we let the tester screen show cooling water temperature (on the 15th and 16th point of inspection recorder) allowing the operator to decrease the water consumption as far as possible (by hand) according to different settings. In order to let operator judge MFT point successfully, we design clear and high graduated scale in the front of the working table.
The BGD 451 is accordance with ISO 2115, ASTM D2354 standard, and can test minimum film temperature of emulsion polymer easily and accurately.
